THE DEAKIN MELBOURNE BOOMERS will host the Dandenong Rangers in a festive blockbuster at the State Basketball Centre from 3pm this Sunday.

Christmas will come early for Boomers fans with a Christmas Derby between the league’s fiercest rivals.

The local competitors will battle it out for the Michele Timms Cup, with the Boomers looking to secure the Cup with a win.

Proudly presented by Bertocchi and Whitelion, all juniors that leave a gift under the Whitelion Tree on game daywill receive FREE entry.

Tip-off is at 3pm and General Admission tickets are available to purchase at the door from 1pm, while Reserved Seats can be booked online.

With both teams in-form and eager to cement their top four positions, a big crowd is tipped to enjoy an afternoon of WNBL fun.

Deakin Melbourne Boomers

1. Following a huge home victory in Round 10, the Boomers have reached top place on the WNBL ladder.
2. The Boomers now hold a 10-5 record with six games remaining in the home-and-away season.
3. The Christmas Derby will be the second last home game for the Boomers.

Dandenong Rangers

1. The Rangers have won their last three games, with their Round 10 victories placing them inside the top-four.
2. This will be the Rangers second game for the round after they take on the UC Capitals first in Canberra on Friday night.
3. Two Rangers players featured in this week’s Team of the Week.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Deakin Melbourne Boomers

Maddie Garrick: Garrick provided the spark for the Boomers in their latest victory, nailing three treys in the last quarter to give the Boomers a very critical lead. Garrick also has the highest 3-point rate for the Boomers, sitting on 38 percent.

Cayla George: George sealed the game for the Boomers last round from the free-throw line, nailing her baskets in the final few seconds. She finished the game with 18pts, 10rebs and 2blks.

Dandenong Rangers

Bec Cole: Cole has been awarded the most recent Player of the Week following a dominant Round 10. She averaged 25.5pts, 5rebs, 7assts and 3stls across the Rangers two games.

 

Betnijah Laney: Laney has been named to the Team of the Week for the first time this season after she averaged 17.5pts, 9rebs, 3.5asts and 1stl per game.

 

AFTER THE GAME

Come on court and meet the team – all the Boomers players will stay on the court for up to 45 minutes post-game with thanks to ANZ! Dexter the mascot will also be there to say hello!

JUNIOR CLUB ACTIVATION

The Boomers have 81 partnering grassroots clubs and associations supporting the team in the WNBL 2018/19 season. This week’s game features the And 1 Cup Grabd Finals at half-time.
