Ultimate Game Guide: Boomers host Purple Power match to support Maddie Riewoldts Vision

November 27, 2019 | Melbourne Boomers news

After picking up back-to-back wins on the road, the Deakin Melbourne Boomers are firing on all cylinders again and sitting pretty in second place on the WNBL ladder heading into their Round Seven match up against the Sydney Uni Flames this Saturday.

Boomers star Ezi Magbegor had an incredible weekend on the road, with a double-double against Adelaide on Friday night, followed up by 10 points and seven rebounds against Bendigo on Sunday. Magbegor will look to continue her good form into the teams first match up against Sydney this season.

“Coming off two wins on the road was big so we hope to carry that into this weekend against Sydney.” she said.

“This will be our first hit out against them this season. They’re a great team and we’re looking forward to competing against them this Saturday.”

A win for the Boomers could see them steal top spot on the ladder from local rivals Southside Flyers, which would add fuel to the fire ahead of the trip to Dandenong to play them in the next round.

The Boomers are also partnering with Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision for this upcoming match, so come down dressed head to toe in purple to show your support for the cause!

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Deakin Melbourne Boomers

Lindsay Allen – the superstar point guard is in scintillating form, top scoring for the Boomers in both round six matches, with 20 points on Friday night against Adelaide and then 17 points against Bendigo on Sunday.

Sophie Cunningham – while it’s her aggression and scoring thats impressed so far, US import Cunningham’s defence on the weekend was some of the best we’ve seen. If she can string it all together her game will be outstanding.

Sydney Uni Flames

Colleen Planeta – the American import was a major threat for the Flames in round six against Perth, making 16 points and nine rebounds.

Lauren Scherf – Scherf is performing exceptionally this season, coming in the top ten in the league for rebounds, with 63 recorded this season, and averaging 7.9 a game.
