Tess Madgen Undergoes Surgery
Tess Madgen, a championship member of the 2021-22 Deakin Melbourne Boomers team and current Australian Opals Captain, has undergone surgery for a knee injury arising from the Opals campaign at the recent FIBA Women’s World Cup.
Madgen is expected to miss at least the first month of the Cygnet WNBL 22-23 Season which commences next week.
Although Madgen’s absence provides a challenge in the short-term, the Boomers have excellent depth to draw upon, including the new addition of Madgen’s Opals teammate, Kristy Wallace, and star WNBA guard, Tiffany Mitchell, who is back in Melbourne for her second season. Boomers Captain, Cayla George, and centre for the Los Angeles Sparks, Olivia Nelson-Ododa, will also provide Coach Chris Lucas with ample options to help cover Madgen’s loss.
The Boomers tip-off their season on November 2nd in Perth with a much-anticipated rematch of last season’s enthralling WNBL Grand Final Series. The team plays their first home game on Sunday November 13 at Melbourne Sports Centres – Parkville, which will provide fans with their first opportunity to see the team live.
