Taylor Ortlepp Joins Boomers
The Deakin Melbourne Boomers are pleased to announce the signing of Taylor Ortlepp for the remainder of the 2022-23 Cygnett WNBL season.
Ortlepp represented Australia at the junior level before signing with the Adelaide Lightning in 2015. Her career then took her to the US to attend Boston College, and then back home to Adelaide for another stint with the Lightning in 2020. A switch to AFLW was next for Ortlepp, who joined the Carlton Football Club in 2022 where she is still currently contracted and will play her second season later in 2023.
Ortlepp was keen to get back into basketball and had been preparing for the upcoming NBL1 season, so the call from Coach Chris Lucas was one she was excited to receive.
Ortlepp says,
“I’m really excited to join the girls – I think they’ve had a really good season so far, so I’m look forward to seeing what they do on the back end of this season and hopefully I can help them in any way they need.”
Coach Lucas has a long relationship with Ortlepp, and did not hesitate to make the call once it became evident the Boomers were in need of another player.
Lucas says,
“I’m really excited to coach Taylor again. Our relationship dates back to her junior days, and it’s great to welcome her to the Deakin Melbourne Boomers. She trained with the team for the first time this morning and looked good, and will suit up for her first game this Sunday against Perth.”
We are excited to welcome Ortlepp to the club, and wish her all the best in her Boomers debut this Sunday against the Perth Lynx at the Boom Box.
