Sharks Coach Joins Boomers For Triple Crown

August 17, 2018 | Melbourne Boomers news

The Deakin Melbourne Boomers will continue to expand its coach development program with the news successful Southern Peninsula Sharks Coaching Director Gerard Hillier will join the Club’s coaching staff for the upcoming Triple Crown event in the Latrobe Valley.

Coach Hillier leads a dynamic basketball program that continues to produce outstanding young talent, a fact that Boomers GM Justin Nelson believes is benefitting Melbourne’s WNBL team with not only great young players, but also a whole new region for Boomers fans.

“Gerard continues to do an amazing job at the Sharks and we look forward to him joining our coaching staff for the Triple Crown next month,” said Nelson, adding “We currently have Jaz Shelley and Liv Pollerd in our squad, both Sharks players, in recent years Ella Hellessey has spent time with us, and we expect to see the likes of Paige Price, and others, burst onto the scene in future years.”

For Coach Hillier, the opportunity to join the Boomers for the Triple Crown presents as another opportunity to develop his craft.

“I’m really looking forward to this opportunity; as coaches we’re always seeking new avenues to learn and further develop, and joining Coach Molloy and his program for the tour will be a fantastic chance to up-skill and learn plenty of new things,” Hillier said.

“This opportunity is made even more special as the tour is being held in regional Victoria, where I have completed the majority of my coaching to date, so I am really excited and thankful for the opportunity to hit the country roads once again and be a part of a WNBL program delivering first class basketball to the country players and their families.”
