The Deakin Melbourne Boomers are proud to announce that Ezi Magbegor has been drafted by the Seattle Storm in the 2019 WNBA Draft, broadcast globally on ESPN this morning from New York. Ezi was a number 12 pick in the first round.

Ezi is one of Australia’s brightest stars and in addition to playing with the Boomers this past season, was a member of the Chemist Warehouse Opals team that won a silver medal at the FIBA World Cup in September. Ezi will be the 35th Australian to play in the WNBA.

Ezi admits playing for the Seattle Storm is a dream come true.

“Playing in the WNBA has always been a goal of mine. To play against the world’s best basketballers, to improve my game and to ultimately be a team contributor is amazing,” said Ezi.

“It has been an incredible journey for me and my family. The amount of support I’ve received from my friends, family, the Deakin Melbourne Boomers and the Opals has been incredible.”

Guy Molloy, Head Coach of the Deakin Melbourne Boomers is ecstatic for Ezi, he says she is an outstanding young woman who also happens to be a budding basketball superstar.

“She is very dedicated to improving her game and becoming a leading player in the WNBL in Australia. On behalf of the Deakin Melbourne Boomers, I can say we are thrilled for Ezi and excited at what her future offers,” said Molloy.

A huge congratulations to Ezi from the entire Boomers family and we can’t wait to see her back on court with us when the 2019/2020 WNBL Season starts in October, which is only five months away!
