POST-GAME REPORT DECEMBER 7 V PERTH LYNX
Last night marked a return to form for the Deakin Melbourne Boomers after winning against the Perth Lynx at Bendat Basketball Centre, 62-93.
The two teams were facing off again after a tough loss on Sunday that saw the Melbourne Boomers defeated by the Perth Lynx, 63-80.
Sunday was not an ideal performance from the Boomers and it was crucial for this game to be a success.
The Melbourne Boomers have been successful in their previous games at Bendat Basketball Centre, having won the last three games played there since the 2019/20 season and last night making it four wins in four seasons.
The Boomers started off strong last night in the first quarter with the first few minutes maintaining possession with Jordin Canada and Naz Hillmon scoring a few baskets.
However, the Perth Lynx maintained control with Anneli Maley scoring 6 points and Aari McDonald grabbing several defensive boards to turn the scoreboard in their favour, the quarter ending 22-17.
The start of the second saw the Boomers stealing and making defensive rebounds, turning the tables on the Lynx and quickly switching possession.
Naz Hillmon scored 8 points in the second quarter, with other starting five members Keely Froling and Sara Blicavs scoring 7 and 5 points respectively.
Aari McDonald remained an important part of the Lynx’s plays, scoring 8 points with an amazing 3-pointer made that put Perth in front.
The second closed out with the Boomers in front, 39-43, with the Lynx still giving the Boomers a good contest and keeping the game tight.
The third also remained close but the Boomers turned up to claim several buckets and began to really gel together.
The Boomers outsold the Lynx with the 3-pointers made, the Boomers scoring 11/23 shots at a 47% accuracy. Lynx couldn’t make the 3-pointers happen, only banking 3/27 at 11% accuracy.
Co-captain Keely Froling and Tera Reed made amazing 3’s that solidified the Boomer’s lead and closing out the third, 58-66.
The last quarter was a bucket shower for the Melbourne Boomers, outscoring the Lynx 27 points to four in the last 10 minutes.
Aimie Rocci came on for the fourth, scoring 6 points, and Naz Hillmon maintained consistent buckets, scoring 4. She ended the game as the Boomer’s top scorer with 20 points and 8 rebounds.
The fourth was raining 3’s with Lilly Rotunno, Penina Davidson, Tera Reed, Keely Froling and Sara Blicavs all locking one in.
Both Canada and Froling claimed a double-double for the game. Canada scored 10 and gave 12 assists and Froling scored 16 points and secured 10 rebounds.
It was an amazing win for the Melbourne Boomers who finished the game 62-93, and are now back on top of the WNBL ladder with six wins and one loss.
The Deakin Melbourne Boomers will now have a little break before facing off against the UC Capitals next Friday, December 15.
They will then have a quick turnaround, coming back to the Boom Box on Sunday, December 17 to go head to head with the Adelaide Lightning.
