Melbourne Wants AusDayEve To Become A Full Day Event
January 18, 2017 | Melbourne Boomers news
The Deakin Melbourne Boomers will expand its AusDayEve clash against Dandenong next Wednesday night to also include a CLB 3X3 Tournament during the day, along with a dunk contest at half-time in the WNBL showdown.
The Boomers want to keep expanding the event to encapsulate a full day and evening of activities.
Entering its second year after a hugely successful start in 2016, the holiday-eve derby between the Boomers and Rangers continues to attract widespread interest amongst Melbourne's large basketball community.
After attracting a record 2,490 for a WNBL game held at the State Basketball Centre last season, the Boomers want to top 3,000 fans this time and set a new record for a Boomers game.
"With the ongoing support of Basketball Victoria, we are really keen to see AusDayEve continue to expand and become a full day of activities at the State Basketball Centre," said Boomers GM, Justin Nelson.
"Next Wednesday's game will include a 3x3 competition with the final set to be played at half-time during the evening's WNBL game. A dunk contest is also planned.
"Ideally we want to keep building the day into a great celebration of basketball in Victoria, and also to recognise girls and women in basketball. This day is an opportunity for us all to show our support," added Nelson.
"Melbourne and Dandenong have a fierce rivalry and always put on a great show. You only need look at last week's overtime game as an example."
