Match Preview: Boomers set for clash with Chinese Womens National team

September 9, 2019 | Melbourne Boomers news

In the most anticipated pre-season game this year, the Deakin Melbourne Boomers are set to take on the Chinese Women’s National Team at Casey Stadium this Tuesday night.

The Chinese Women’s team is currently ranked 7th in the world, and with two Australian Opals and four New Zealand Tall Ferns in the Boomers lineup, the game will be packed with international stars.

After a thrilling win against the NBL1 AllStars in their first pre-season match on Saturday night, the Boomers are already off to a great start ahead of the upcoming 2019/20 WNBL season.

Kalani Purcell put on a fine display on Saturday night, particularly in defense and is one to watch on Tuesday night.

Hosted by Casey Basketball Association, this is a rare opportunity for basketball fans to see an international women’s game in Victoria.

Boomers player Cayla George says her side will have their work cut out on Tuesday night.

George was part of the Australian Opals side that defeated China in the FIBA World Cup quarter-final last year.

“China will be tough for the Boomers, I got to play against them last year with the Opals, along with (fellow Boomer) Ezi Magbegor at the World Cup, they have a lot of height in their team,” said George.

“It will be a great hit out for us ahead of the WNBL season; a fun night and I hope plenty of Chinese fans in Melbourne turnout.”
