Maddie Garrick Set For Game 200
Maddie Garrick will celebrate her 200th WNBL game on Thursday night when she steps on court for the Deakin Melbourne Boomers against Sydney at the State Basketball Centre.
The two-time Championship winner is in her fourth season with the Boomers and continues to be one of the league’s sharpest shooters. Originally from Shepparton, the 26-year missed Monday’s night’s Cup Eve clash with her former club after suffering an injury last week against Dandenong.
The first 1000 fans to arrive at the State Basketball Centre on Thursday night will receive a free Maddie Garrick player card to celebrate her 200th WNBL game.
“Maddie is one of the most talented and hard-working players in the WNBL,” said Boomers Coach Guy Molloy on the eve of his shooting guard’s milestone game.
“Despite many set-backs over the last few years, Maddie’s love of and motivation for basketball has endured. At her best, she will press for further National team selections.
“In the meantime, her talent will be a major factor as the Boomers try to go one better this season,” added Molloy.
For Garrick the milestone will be a timely reminder of just how much she has already achieved in one of the world’s premier leagues.
“Milestone games are always a bit more emotional and sentimental, and it will remind me to look back on my career so far and reflect on the process and achievements that have brought me to my 200th game,” said Garrick.
“I couldn’t be more excited to play in front of and share this milestone with our amazing Boomers fans, as well as with my incredible teammates, coaches and everyone at the club.”
Thursday night’s (Nov 8) game is the Boomers annual Wear Your Colours match where all juniors wearing their own junior club colours will receive FREE entry. Tip-off is at 7pm, doors open at 5pm.
