JORDIN CANADA NAMED WNBL MVP WINNER
Deakin Melbourne Boomers star Jordin Canada became just the second import to win the Suzy Batkovic Medal at the Cygnett WNBL Awards night in Melbourne on Sunday.
The WNBA point guard capped a brilliant debut season in purple and gold by being crowned league MVP.
She joins Canadian Kia Nurse (UC Capitals, 2019-20) as the only import player to win the award which is named after six-time winner Batkovic.
Canada averaged 15.2 points, 7.6 assists and 4.8 rebounds across 18 home-and-away games.
She missed two games in December with concussion.

“It’s a very competitive league and has been great for me to expand my game in different ways.”
“I want to thank my teammates, I appreciate them so much and thank them for all they have done for me.”

MVP votes were tallied throughout the regular season by Head Coaches and the Lead Referee on each game.
The top 15 athletes were then put forward to the WNBL Awards Committee, who voted to determine the winner.
Canada also won selection in the All-WNBL First team alongside Sydney Flames’ Lauren Nicholson, Southside Flyers’ Mercedes Russell, UC Capitals’ Jade Melbourne and Adelaide Lighting’s Isobel Borlase.
Naz Hillmon was selected for the All-WNBL Second team, an amazing achievement for a first year import and giving her her flowers for an incredible season.
Canada is very proud of her new bestie Hillmon and finds it “cool to have [their] hard work be recognised” however believes that Hillmon “should be first team” but knows that’s “just [me] being biased”.
This recognition is a huge boost of confidence and “truly special” for Canada but she knows that come Wednesday, “it will be a battle”.
“I think we will be prepared for Flyers. I think with our resiliency and our fight, we can really compete.”
“As long as we play our best and to our potential, whatever the outcome is, we will be proud of the work we put on the floor.”
It will be Jordin’s first go at the WNBL finals but she is “really excited” and is “very grateful” to have the opportunity to play in the finals.
“I’m looking forward to the crowd atmosphere and just the experience of what it’s like to play in a WNBL playoff game, I think it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
