Grill’D Post-Game Report Round 3

November 20, 2022 | Melbourne Boomers news

Fans packed out the Boom Box again as the Deakin Melbourne Boomers recorded a huge 103-68 win over the UC Capitals.

The Play-by-Play

Kristy Wallace and Mia Murray started off the game with our first two baskets and the Boomers could not miss after that. Cayla George was influential with two big threes and finished the quarter strongly to lead the scoring with 9 points for the Boomers. The Caps started a mini-run to cut the lead to 6 points late in the quarter but, the Boomers defence was way too strong and at the first break led 36-22.

The Boomers found it hard to score, in what was a physical quarter, and the Caps cut down the lead to 10. At the halfway mark in the second, the Caps combined together as a team and managed to narrow the Boomers lead to 1 point. A Boomers time-out proved to make a difference as they started to find the bottom of the net. Wallace hit a three on the buzzer to take the lead to 11 points at the half, 49-38.

The Boomers left a difficult second quarter behind them and went on a scoring run which started with a Wallace assist to George for three. A Penina Davidson layup mid-way through the third blew the Boomers lead out to 21 points. After a quiet first half, Tiffany Mitchell showed her dominance for a 13-point quarter and George was strong on the boards which helped the Boomers to a healthy 77-50 lead at three quarter time.

It was the Boomers bench who continued the scoring frenzy in the last. Rachel Brewster hit the court to contribute 11 points in five minutes. The Boomers showed their strength in defence and held the Caps to record a massive 103-68 win in front of their home fans in the Boom Box.

Star Performers

Penina Davidson was the Boomers Player of the Game with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. Davidson finished the game shooting 100% from the field.
