Grand Finals Series: Game one
Melbourne Boomers v Perth Lynx
SATURDAY 2nd April 5:00pm AEDT / 4:00pm AEST

The Deakin Melbourne Boomers will battle against Perth Lynx in the first game of the Grand Final series at the Boom Box, this Saturday 2nd of April at 5:00pm AEDT.

Lynx and Boomers have clashed twice this season with each team walking away with a win.

The Boomers took a 3-point victory in Round 7 in Ballarat. The two teams were evenly matched and went bucket for bucket throughout the game, flexing their shooting accuracy. Melbourne brought relentless pressure and maintained shooting accuracy in the final term, earning them the win.

Perth Lynx took the victory in the Round 10 match-up in an overtime battle, 76 – 71. The two teams were evenly matched once again, as they struggled to find momentum and get their baskets flowing. Lynx brought the pressure with 3/4 court press, causing difficult passes and increased turnovers from the Boomers.

In this game, Perth’s Alex Sharp took the lead for her team in the dying seconds with a shot from beyond the arc, taking the game into overtime. The Boomers fell short in the final term as they were unable to hit their shots in the dying minutes, whilst Lynx thrived with the pressure, bringing the heat at the right time.

Perth’s Jackie Young has proved to be an asset for her team, ending the Round 10 match-up with 26 points, eight rebounds and six assists, and a season average of 17.9 points and 3.4 assists per game. Marina Mabrey is dangerous with the ball in her hands, as she averages 18.7 points per game.

Perth Lynx enters the Grand Final with a 1-0 semi-finals series win against Canberra Capitals. Lynx took the victory in their hometown with a 14-point difference (91 -77). Sami Whitcomb dominated as she ended the night with a double-double – 20 points and 11 assists.

The Boomers are coming in hot for the Grand Final series, defeating Adelaide Lightning 2-0 in the semi-final series.

Melbourne played the first game with grit and determination, outscoring Adelaide in the second half (63 – 17 points), gaining momentum and displaying what they can do under pressure.

The second game of the series was a defensive battle between the Boomers and Lightning. Despite struggling with shooting accuracy, Melbourne brought high tempo transitions and pressure in defence and defensive transitions.

The high pressure forced Lightning to take difficult shots and numerous turnovers, making them work hard for their baskets.

The Boomers played all four terms with composure, determination, and unison, capitalising on second chance opportunities and bringing pressure to the opposition.

For this Grand Final opener, the Boomers can’t afford to take their foot off the gas as they come up against Perth Lynx in the best-of-three series.

They will need to maintain shooting accuracy and ball movement for all four terms, whilst capitalising on second chance opportunities, predominantly through defensive and offensive rebounds. This will be a close, gritty contest you won’t want to miss.

The Boomers look forward to seeing all their supporters cheering from the stands in what has been an exceptionally difficult season. We hope to see the Boom Box filled with the Purple Haze!

Food trucks will be outside the venue with extra parking at available, if needed, at Melbourne Zoo’s own overflow carpark only opened for special occasions.
