Game preview: Boomers v Fire

January 22, 2022 | Melbourne Boomers news

The Deakin Melbourne Boomers will take on the Townsville Fire tonight at the Boom Box for the first time this WNBL 21/22 season.

It will be the first time the two teams face-off against one another since the Fire thwarted the Boomers’ 2020 finals run in a heart-breaking three-point loss last season in the preliminary finals in Townsville.

The Fire will be coming off the back of their first double-header of the season, having defeated Bendigo Spirit last night, 67 – 77.

Townsville experienced two losses at the start of their season pre-Christmas but have secured three wins since. We can expect them to implement high rotations off the bench to manage fatigue due to a 24-hour gap between games and some players still feeling the effects of COVID-19.

The Boomers are coming off back-to-back wins and have a 6-2 win/loss record so far this season, having played the most games of any team so far.

It’s sure to be a highly competitive and fierce competition tonight at the Boom Box!

If you can’t make it to the game in person today, be sure to tune in to watch the game LIVE and FREE on the ABC, plus Foxtel and Kayo.
