Game preview: Boomers and Flames
We are excited to welcome you to the State Basketball Centre (SBC) for the first of two games at our home in the City of Knox.
Tomorrow, the Deakin Melbourne Boomers will be back in action to take on the Sydney Uni Flames.
The last time they met, the Boomers managed to walk away with a six-point win on Sydney’s home turf at Qudos Bank Arena, and they will be out to return the favour this weekend.
The Boomers defensive end will need to be wary of Shyla Heal and Keely Froling.
Heal executed one of her best performances of the season in the round four clash, scoring 29 points and making four three-pointers, while Froling scored 18 points and is coming straight off the back of a 31-point clash against Townsville.
Both sides will enjoy the return of their Opals teammates after the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers in Serbia – Cayla George and Tess Madgen for the Boomers, as well as Heal for the Flames.
The Boomers’ talls, as well as imports Lindsay Allen and Tiffany Mitchell, are sure to cause some headaches on the scoreboard for the Flames.
We will have to be mindful of the Flames’ defensive efforts.
Former Boomer, Kalani Purcell, is proving to be one of the standouts for the Flames since both sides met in round four. She is second in the league in steals per game, averaging 2.5 per game.
After a nail-biting loss to Perth Lynx prior to the break, the Boomers will be determined to dominate the Flames and bring home the win at their spiritual home!
