Booming for Finals
In the leadup to the WNBL20 Finals Series, the Deakin Melbourne Boomers are roaring and ready to go. With a tally of 15 wins and only 6 losses in the regular season, the Finals are a whole different ball game for the purple power.
Matching up against last season’s champs, the UC Capitals, in the 2v3 playoff, the Boomers are ready to come out firing with the goal, to make and take the championship title.
Even with Opals commitments in the FIBA Olympic Qualifiers this week, Cayla George and Ezi Magbegor are gunning for a Boomers championship this season,
“This is what we train for, this is what it’s all about! The fun starts now!” George said.
“We are looking forward to getting playoffs started. It’s an exciting time, I think the team will use the next couple of weeks to really prepare for Canberra game one.” Magbegor said.
The whole squad couldn’t be more fired up and ‘ready to go’ for the semi’s. Here’s what the rest of the team had to say about Finals:
Maddie Garrick…
“I’ve been fortunate enough to be apart of Finals campaigns before, but I’ve never been so excited in my career to head into Finals with a team like I am with this year’s playing group. There is just such an electric vibe amongst the place and the playing group has such an incredible bond that I know together we can create something really special.”
“I wouldn’t expect us to prepare any different to how we have all year. We know what needs to be done, we know what we’re capable of – so we will do everything we can to make that happen. We definitely won’t be using the FIBA qualification window as an opportunity to relax while the Opals girls are away. We will continue to maintain our training standards throughout that time so we are best prepared come our first final.”
Kalani Purcell…
“Finals is always an exciting time for the teams playing, so I don’t even need to talk about how excited I am because it’s a given! I think as a team we are more confident than ever. With Moni (Conti) pursuing a different career it has given everyone in the team an opportunity to step up and we showed what we can do with our team performance on Saturday against Perth. We are all ready to play in the Finals!”
Lindsay Allen…
“We’re all very excited during this period of lead-up to the Finals. It’s going to require a lot of focus from the team, but we’re up to the challenge. I’m feeling good physically and can’t wait to attack the Finals with everything I can give.”
Penina Davidson…
“I’m feeling really excited, we have such a great team that genuinely cares for each other. So to go into the business end of the season with them is a real privilege.”
Stella Beck…
“I am feeling great about Finals, I think the whole team is. It is a really exciting team to be a part of for Finals because we all get along so well and enjoy each other’s successes just as much as our own.”
Toni Farnworth…
“I can’t wait for Finals to start. I will be trying to do things the same as I have all season. Preparing myself for the game at trainings then going out in the game to play my roll as best I can.”
Sophie Cunningham…
“I think culturally and physically we’re in a good spot, so this break will be nice (The FIBA International break) but we’re anxious to get going! I am going to do anything the team needs in order for us to win. Full steam ahead, we’re coming.”
Chelsea D’Angelo…
“I’m going about business as usual. Obviously we are training hard so that we can hopefully be in peak physical condition when we play game one. We have a couple of weeks to get lots of training under our belts so that we come out feeling super confident.”
Rachel Brewster
“I’m really excited about where the team is heading into Finals. We’re all focused and we’ve worked so hard to get to this point. I think we’re ready to go and I have all the confidence in this team to get it done.”
Paige Price
“I’m very confident that this team will do the Boomers family proud in the Finals due to all the hard work we put in at training’s and making each other better day in and day out.”
