Boomers Wish Former Players Well
The Deakin Melbourne Boomers extend warm congratulations and wish both Bec Cole and Britt Smart successful seasons at their respective new clubs for WNBL season 2018/19.
Smart played with the club for three seasons and is now heading to Sydney for the next two years, while Cole was a Boomer for five years and has just signed with Dandenong for the coming WNBL season.
Club GM Justin Nelson said: “Both Britt and Bec will always be looked upon as fantastic players who helped put the Boomers back on the map in recent years.
“Everyone at the club wishes both the very best and no doubt our fans will love catching up with Bec and Britt when they come to play the Boomers at the State Basketball Centre.”
Changes to the Boomers squad also see Louella Tomlinson and Liz Cambage departing, while recruits joining us include Steph Talbot, Ezi Magbegor, Cayla George, Jaz Shelley and American Lindsay Allen.
Boomers coach Guy Molloy says that while it is always sad to see quality players move to rival clubs, the changes to the Boomers squad had the club well positioned to once again contend for a title.
“I know everyone associated with the Boomers, including the coaching staff, the board and our front office wish all of our departing players well. We will always welcome them with open arms when they come to visit us in the future,” said Molloy.
“However, as we grow and look to achieve more success, changes are made and hopefully the results will follow. We have worked hard to bring an exciting mix of youth and experience together and we’re all looking forward to another successful season.”
