Boomers seek support for Gippsland residents

June 17, 2021 | Melbourne Boomers news

Residents in Gippsland have experienced nothing short of a nightmare few days.

Last week’s severe storms, wind and rain, tore down trees, damaged homes and has left thousands still without power.

With strong ties to the Gippsland community – we’ll be working with our sponsors and stakeholders to raise funds to donate to those in need.

As Boomers supporters, if you’re in a position to do so, we’d encourage you to make a donation also – big or small, it all counts.

All donations should be made directly to the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund.

All donations received by the GERF are distributed to disaster victims in Gippsland and are tax deductible.

In partnership with the Latrobe Valley Authority, the Boomers have been actively involved in the region over the past four years in our commitment to supporting the development and growth of basketball in the Gippsland region, with a focus on building capacity, increasing participation and strengthening pathways.

Most recently in January, Boomers stars, Tess Madgen, Penina Davidson and Rachel Brewster headed to the Latrobe Valley to take part in the 3×3 Community Hustle Tour, as well as run some clinics and training sessions for some local teams and kids.

Further to this the Boomers will bring world class basketball to the region next year, playing a nationally broadcast WNBL game at the newly upgrade Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium in January 2022.

The area has been hit hard in recent times, through devasting fires and COVID-19 lockdowns, and with concerns about more bad weather later this week, the Boomers family are thinking of all of you doing it tough. Stay safe and we look forward to visiting later this year!
