BOOMERS LOOKING TO GO ALL THE WAY IN FOURTH STRAIGHT FINALS APPEARANCE
The WNBL20 Finals Series is about to kick off and in a year like no other, we’re excited to be entering the playoffs for the fourth straight season. With a win-loss record of 8-3, we are currently sitting in third place on the WNBL20 ladder behind cross-town rivals the Jayco Southside Flyers (first) and the UC Capitals (second).
We have two games remaining in the regular season, facing off against the Villawood Bendigo Spirit in Cairns on Friday night before we head back to Townsville looking for redemption against locals JCU Townsville Fire on Sunday afternoon. A win against both of these sides will guarantee us a top two finish on the WNBL20 Ladder and a second chance in the occurrence of a Semi Final loss.
We were far from our best the last time we matched up against the Fire, and a slow start meant we were trailing by eight points less than two minutes into the opening term; a deficit that we were never able to recover from. With Townsville Stadium back at 100% capacity and with so much on the line for both sides – Townsville are currently sitting fourth on the ladder and will be looking to head into the Finals off the back of a win – the stage is set for a cracker of a game.
“The team is in good shape. We’ve navigated through what was an intensive leg of the season up in Cairns. We’re looking forward to rounding out the regular season with a solid matchup against the Fire back in Townsville,” said Assistant Coach Paul Flynn. “The game itself and the matchups within present us with fantastic preparation for the upcoming finals. The Fire got us in our first match up for the season, so a wonderful opportunity to see where we’ve made improvements and a chance to flip the ledger. We have a level of expectation internally and a belief that we can deliver on that, it’s important that we step up to that challenge now.”
Tune into Kayo or Fox Sports this Sunday at 12pm AEST | 1pm AEDT to cheer us on.
