Boomers Launch Opening Week With Family Day

The Deakin Melbourne Boomers have tipped-off the opening week of the WNBL season with a successful family day, which was attended by more than 500 members.

Coupled with a free clinic for junior members, the Boomers players also stepped on court for a short training session before meeting everyone for photos and autographs.

“It was great to see so many people here, the feeling heading into the season is one of excitement,” said Boomers Assistant GM, Lauren Jackson.

“Our members are very important to us, so to be able to provide something like this members only clinic is a little bit special and was fun for all the team to do.”

Membership numbers for the Boomers have swelled to more than 1200 and the club isn’t sitting idle. According to Jackson the Boomers want to reach 1500 members.

“It’s such a positive place to be, the connection to grassroots is so strong and we are seeing the benefit of that connection through the enormous numbers of young members joining the club, especially young girls,” added Jackson.
