Boomers hit the hustle in the Latrobe Valley

January 28, 2021 | Melbourne Boomers news

Last week Boomers stars Tess Madgen, Penina Davidson and Rachel Brewster headed to the Latrobe Valley to take part in the 3×3 Community Hustle Tour, as well as run some clinics and training sessions for some local teams and kids.

The first leg of the tour started on Tuesday in Warragul at the 3×3 Community Hustle Clinic, where the athletes covered some fundamental basketball skills and played some fun games with the participants, before watching them take part in the 3×3 Hustle Tournament.

Later that night, the group headed to Latrobe City Energy’s VJBL training session with the U14 and U16 Girls and U18 Boys. Tess, Penina and Rachel worked with the Energy coaches to run a session that focused on 3×3 skills and drills. It was great fun and the teams showed off their strong talent and hard-working attitude.

On Wednesday the group headed to Sale for a training session with the U16 Sale Sonics – you can check out the news report of the session here! The next leg of the 3×3 Community Hustle Tour was also held in Sale at the impressive Gippsland Regional Sports Complex. Later in the day Tess, Penina and Rachel sat down with some of the players from the previous night’s Energy training session for a lovely dinner and Q&A session, where they shared their thoughts and experiences on becoming an elite athlete.

On the final day of the tour, the group headed to Moe for a Street Games Clinic before heading to Traralgon’s newly redeveloped Sports Stadium for the last leg of the 3×3 Hustle Tour. There was a huge turnout for the Community Clinic, where Tess, Penina and Rachel ran difference stations, before getting to watch the participants put what they had learnt into action in the 3×3 Tournament.

It was a fantastic trip run in conjunction with our partners at Latrobe Valley Authority, and we look forward to our next trip to the region later in 2021.
