BOOMERS EMPTY-HANDED FROM TOUGH WEEKEND

It was a tough road trip north for the Deakin Melbourne Boomers with losses to Sydney (Friday) and Townsville (Sunday) pushing them back to a 4-3 record ahead of a huge double-header against their two Victorian rivals next round.
Sunday’s loss to the Fire was a tough contest, a physical game that went down to the wire. Suzy Batkovic (26pts) came up big for the home team when it mattered most.
Right in the game throughout, the Boomers just couldn’t land baskets late with the home town fans finding plenty of voice to get their team across the line. Defensively the team landed plenty of blows, making it difficult for the Fire to find any rhythm.
Britt Smart (16pts – pictured) Liz Cambage (12pts) and Bec Cole (11pts) led the scoring for Melbourne.
