Boomers come out on top in first pre-season match

The Deakin Melbourne Boomers have won their first pre-season match of 2019/20, defeating the NBL1 AllStars 81-70 at Mullum Mullum Stadium last night.
The Boomers came out hot with Stella Beck opening the game with a 3–pointer, followed quickly by another two. However at quarter time they trailed by a single point 17-18.
Ezi Magbegor had a strong outing with 15 points, with Monique Conti close behind her with 14.
A strong game by Georgia Amoore for the NBL1 AllStars as she made 15 of their 70 points.
Half-time saw the Boomers again falling short 36-38, but still keeping it close.
The third quarter is when the Boomers really picked up the pace, especially on the defensive end. Kalani Purcell had active hands, picking off a number of passes, as well as dominating the boards, finishing with a game high of eleven.
While the Boomers lead heading into the fourth (53-48) the Allstars fought back, with scores all tied with 8-minutes to go.
A strong block by Purcell, followed by a 3–pointer from Conti gave the Boomers a much needed momentum swing. This was followed by continued defensive pressure and a great amount of selfless offensive team play, which saw the lead stretch out, and the Boomers come away with the win.
