Boomers Announce Five Big Pre-Season Games

The Deakin Melbourne Boomers have announced five pre-season games, including three games in Melbourne and two in Ballarat. In a busy schedule from the second weekend on September, the Boomers will play games against an Invitational Women's Team and the Centre of Excellence, along with hit-outs against WNBL teams Adelaide, Dandenong and Bendigo. "With the changes to the WNBL regular season we are very mindful that the month of September becomes a critical part of our overall plan," said Coach Guy Molloy, adding, "It's extremely important we prepare well and use every chance we have during pre-season to put our structures in place." Melbourne's WNBL team will again be taking pre-season games out to the wider basketball community with Sunbury, Nuanwading, Kilsyth and Ballarat all set to host games, a move that GM Justin Nelson says is an "integral part to the Boomers' connection with the grassroots level of the game." "Support for the Deakin Melbourne BoomersÊin the WNBL is growing rapidly and it's a high priority of ours to make sure we are connecting with all the basketball associations and clubs across Melbourne, particularly the girls playing the game," added Nelson. Pre-season games will start at Sunbury on September 9 when the Boomers play an Invitational Women's Team that will feature a number of leading local and import players from the Big V and SEABL competitions. Ballarat will host two games as a part of Melbourne's 4-day camp in the regional city where basketball continues to grow amongst the community.
