Bernadette Dodd honoured with Linda Perry Award
The Deakin Melbourne Boomers were thrilled to announce the 2020/21 Linda Perry Award winner as Bernadette Dodd, at a small gathering for the club recently.
Bernie is on the Board of Directors at the Boomers but she is also committed to working with the Front Office day-to-day, running the finances, merchandise and even jumping in to help with various areas of operations and community work.
“Bernie is a Director of the club but so much more,” says Julia Walsh, fellow Boomers Director.
“Some people do things loudly and some very quietly not expecting any recognition, and that’s Bernie.
“She is the glue in the Boomers’ organisation, where there are skill gaps or jobs to be done Bernie jumps in.
“In a year complicated by COVID she certainly took that complication out of the hub, always pleasant, reliable and a problem solver.”
The Linda Perry Award is awarded to the person who best embodies the spirit of the Boomers, just as its namesake did.
Perry was a passionate leader of the club, who was dedicated to going above and beyond for anybody in the Boomers family and holds a special place in the hearts of those who had the opportunity to work with her.
“It is a huge honour to receive the Linda Perry Award. I feel that I am one small link in a long chain of people who are working to ensure that the Melbourne Boomers can be the best WNBL club in the league,” says Bernie.
“I am privileged to be a part of the off-court team working to help our amazing athletes be the best they can be.
“Thank you to all those who travelled to the Hub to keep the WNBL alive in 2020, it was a huge undertaking by all.”
Bernie has gone above and beyond for the Deakin Melbourne Boomers, and we congratulate her on receiving this honour – it’s certainly well-deserved.
