Anstey And Edmanson Join Boomers As Development Players
The Deakin Melbourne Boomers have commenced contracting development players for the coming 2018/19 WNBL season with young Victorian stars Isobel Anstey and Lara Edmanson the first to be announced.
It is anticipated up to six development players will join the Boomers this season where they will get to train alongside and against Opals stars like Jenna O’Hea, Steph Talbot, Cayla George and Ezi Magbegor.
“It’s always exciting to welcome new players to the Boomers, and in particular seeing development players join us,” said Boomers coach Guy Molloy, adding “The club has a strong focus on young Victorians and both Isobel and Lara are rising talents progressing along the Victorian player pathway.”
“Lara spent quite a lot of time with the club last season and started to really find her feet in a competitive environment, while Isobel has previously experienced some WNBL interaction at Dandenong.”
“We have been working hard at identifying potential development players and recently liked what we saw from Isobel and Lara at the U18 nationals played in Geelong. Both players work extremely hard and we believe our program will help them to continue their development, all with a view to one day being WNBL senior players,” added Molloy.
Further development player announcements are expected in the coming weeks with Molloy and Boomers GM Justin Nelson continuing to regularly watch SEABL and Big V games, along with talking to coaches across Victorian basketball.
“We take the recruitment of our players extremely seriously. This is the top level of competition for women in Australia, it’s one of the best leagues in the world and we are Melbourne’s team, so getting the recruitment of all of our players right is important to us,” said Boomers GM Justin Nelson.
“We are thrilled to have Isobel and Lara joining us, their recruitment is a great credit to their grassroots clubs, their junior coaches and the Basketball Victoria player pathway. Together we are all continuing to reap great rewards from excellent programs and seeing talented players rise to the top,” Nelson added.
