Boomers confirm the members of subcommittee to appoint next Head Coach
In November the Deakin Melbourne Boomers announced that, at the completion of WNBL 21/22 and after nine memorable seasons, Head Coach Guy Molloy has opted to step away from the program and take on new opportunities in New Zealand.
The board of the Boomers are pleased to confirm the members of the coaching subcommittee that will lead the appointment of the next Head Coach of our WNBL program.
Mark Ronan (Board Director) will chair the subcommittee, alongside fellow directors, Julia Walsh and Tony Hallam (Board Chair), FIBA Hall of Fame member, Michele Timms, and club Head of Medical, Gaylene McKay.
“The board of the Boomers sees that professional basketball experience is crucial to the make-up of this subcommittee, and Michele and Gaylene’s experience in high performance coaching and professional programs will be an invaluable benefit to this process,” says board Chair, Tony Hallam.
“Michele’s playing and coaching career speaks for itself, both internationally with Australia and China, across the WNBA, European leagues, the WNBL and NBL. Few would understand the qualities required to succeed as a senior coach more than Michele, who is a welcome addition to the subcommittee.
“Gaylene played over 300 WNBL games and is one of the leading sports science experts in women’s basketball in Australia.
“The two board members bring their experience both in and outside of professional basketball to the process associations. Julia is a highly credentialled academic in coach development and Mark is Managing Director of leading Australian retailer Adairs.
“We will work through a thorough process, with a view to making an appointment shortly after the completion of the current season in April.”
