40th Anniversary Honourees – Kylie Reid
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Deakin Melbourne Boomers, individuals who have made special contributions to the Boomers and our history will be honoured at each Home Game at the Boom Box.
For our Home Game this Wednesday January 10, Kylie Reid is the esteemed guest whose history and success with the team will be celebrated.
Born on the 15th of October in 1982, Kylie Reid nee Jordan was involved as a guard for the then Bulleen Boomers from the 2005/06 WNBL season to the championship season of 2010/2011.
Playing a total of 245 games for the Boomers, Reid has played the second most career games in Boomers’ club history, second only to Linda Brandt with 252 games.
Reid was a significant a part of the 2010/11 WNBL Championship, aided by fellow honourees Head Coach Tom Maher and Assistant Coach Michele Timms.
This was notably the Bulleen Boomers’ first ever WNBL Championship and a wonderful accomplishment for both Reid and the Club.
The 2010/11 WNBL Championship was hugely significant, not only being the club’s first in its history but also finally came following two back-to-back Grand Final defeats to the Canberra Capitals.
Reid was known as an absolute defensive threat and frequently caused havoc for opposing offensive players.
A true Boomers veteran, Reid in her best years was a constant presence in the Starting 5 for the Bulleen Boomers alongside WNBL greats Desi Glaubitz and Sharin Milner.
Kylie was extremely honoured to be a part of the 40th anniversary tributes for the Deakin Melbourne Boomers and had this to say “It is an honour to be recognised by the Melbourne Boomers as a former WNBL player and Club contributor (1999 – 2011).
In 1999, I was selected from the Bulleen Boomers Junior program by Lori Chizik to join the 1999/2000 WNBL training squad (I still have the invitation letter!). As a teenager to work alongside and learn from my heros – Tranquilli, Timms and Cleary was a dream come true and an opportunity I would not let pass.
Other than lifelong friendships and the bonds created with my teammates, the highlight of my career is finishing with the 2010/11 Championship under the greatest coach, Tom Maher.
I am forever grateful for the opportunity to represent the organisation for over 10 years and would like to thank the support staff who worked tirelessly for womens sport and kept us on the court during this period, establishing the path for the Melbourne Boomers of today.”
