40th Anniversary Honourees – Desiree Glaubitz
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Deakin Melbourne Boomers, individuals who have made special contributions to the Boomers and our history will be honoured at each Home Game at the Boom Box.
For our Gippsland Home Game this Sunday November 26, Desiree Glaubitz is the esteemed guest whose history and success with the team will be celebrated.
Desiree, as known as Desi, was born on the 24th of September in 1979 in Traralgon, Gippsland. She played as a guard during her time playing in the WNBL.
Desi completed Year 12 at Lake Ginninderra College in 1997 and then commenced the 1997/98 WNBL season playing with AIS. She continued to play with them until the 1999/00 season where she moved to Sydney to play with the Flames.
Desi then played for the Townsville Fire in the 2001/02 season before departing to commence her long-standing contributions to the Bulleen Boomers.
She played for the Bulleen Boomers for eight seasons from 2003 to 2011 in the WNBL, donning number 6 and was made captain of the Boomers for her hard work and dedication.
In 2009, the Boomers had one of the most dominant regular seasons in WNBL history with a record of 21 wins and 1 loss, with Desi leading the way as Boomers captain.
Desi played over 100 games for the Bulleen Boomers and finished up her playing time in the WNBL after the 2010/11 season where she was given the Australian WNBL Champion award in 2011 for her efforts as co-captains.
Desi has maintained to keep her brain busy by completing additional certifications and studies, including a Graduate Certificate in Rehabilitation Case Management from Griffith University and a Master’s Degree in Personal Injury Management and Business from Deakin University.
Desiree Glaubitz will be at our Gippsland game and will be acknowledged in front of Boomers fans at the Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium (GRISS).
